Over the next few weeks Computers in New Zealand schools is holding a series of online discussions with authors  who contributed to the April July 2010 issue of the journal. The first of  a series CINZS open discussions with authors is about to kick off with Marilyn Small. For those of you who have not yet caught up with Marilyn’s article she was an e-fellow in 2009 investigating the impact of an authentic audience on student engagement and motivation in literacy. The context was Manaia School’s involvement in Pukeko Echo, a children’s television show run by Channel North.

CINZS featured in the April / July issue;

  • Professional articles – these are articles from teachers who are using  ICTs in interesting and effective ways in their classrooms. This month we have articles from two 2009 e-fellows, Deidre Senior and Marilyn Small about classroom projects they carried out as part of their Ministry of Education fellowships.

  • Research articles - these articles are submitted by members of New Zealand’s ICT research community  and are peer reviewed. This month we have an article by Sue Bedford, who asks the question, “Can teachers utilise the strategies, skills and contexts developed as part of social literate practice in the academic writing of the classroom?”

  • Columns  and reviews - several people will provide columns on an intermittent basis.
      • Professor Niki Davis from Canterbury is offering a column on Virtual Schooling  in New Zealand. This will be of interest  to all  who have a role in using communication technologies to extend the reach of school teachers and to improve access to education.
      • Andrea Robertson from the University of Otago College of Education is offering a regular column on “e-Learning in Action” The column will focus on the latest Web 2.0 and e-learning tools available, this column will provide ideas, examples and tips for using in the classroom.
