Thanks for the updates Claire.

The Iste conference looks great! It is in Philadelphia – 16 hour time difference – so add 16 hours makes it 4 in the morning – I don’t know if that is any better than midnight!!! J

Cheers

Fiona

EduCampTaiTokerau on next weekend

Educamps are a fantastic form of participant driven PD along with ongoing contact building via online platforms such as the VLN, Twitter etc.  Here is a link to the events for this year http://educampnz.wikispaces.com/home.  Next weekend is EduCampTaiTokerau:St. Francis Xavier Catholic School Whangarei which should be fantastic.

Free PD Opportunity - ISTE unplugged!

ISTE2011 is taking place this week, this is the International Society of Technology in Education Conference (sort of like an American Ulearn), although we can’t be there in person, we can participate in a number of free online workshops beginning this evening NZ time. Check out the schedule here: http://www.isteunplugged.com/

One workshop in particular jumped out:

Title: #engchat: community, conversation and collaboration for English teachers
Description: Developing a community for English teacher via Twitter to share resources, solve problems and connect our students.
Presenter: Meenoo Rami
Email & Other Links: meenoo.rami AT gmail.com - http://engchat.pbworks.com/ www.twitter.com/mrami2 http://digitalis.nwp.org/

Although I suspect this takes place at midnight our time – anyone good at working out local times??

Using iPads in English

There was an off list serve request for info regarding iPads in English – does anyone have any ideas or suggestions??

Using Facebook in English

I also had a request for info regarding how teachers are using Facebook Pages to support their English classes. If you are just starting out with Facebook pages, you are welcome to check a resource I developed for staff here at EGGS.

Providing useful index of Web links listed organised by English strands

I was thinking over the weekend (dangerous I know!) that it might be handy to develop a set of useful web links for different websites that support out different strands of e.g. organised under the headings of:

?        Writing

?        Presenting

?        Speaking

?        Reading

?        Listening

?        Viewing

With explanations as to how they might be used in an English classroom.

What do you think –useful?? Have recommendations??

Have a great Week 9!
