Hi everyone – this is my first post so howdy from here at Pakuranga College! In regard to using creative commons media material, try
http://search.creativecommons.org/
There is a great search engine that lets you search multiple sources for creative commons video/audio/photos and everything else.
My students have been playing around with photo searches mostly but it is very good for finding mood music as well.

Oh wow, those are exactly the links I've been looking for Maria. Thanks! I was aware Incompetech but not the others. Ace. Am going to add them to creating visual texts page on wikieducator.

Here is something I read this morning on another 'resource' site about Creative Commons 'Audio for Podcasts and Presentations'. I visit this site less frequently since I don't have easy access to IWB technology any more but find it still 'pedagogically stimulating':

Visual texts are wicked but it's always a mission to find high-quality exemplars. Also, annotated exemplars in the same style as the task are essential but sometimes you just need that extra bit of awesomeness to really get students inspired and show them see some really high-quality visual features in action. While these ones aren't annotated (I wonder what the visual.ly crew would make of an NCEA marking criteria???) they're totally amazing from a visual language standpoint and film/English related.
Evil and ugly to good and pretty - vampire continuum. I love the pairing of attractiveness to moral fibre here. Might be something for media studies...
