A friend of one of my colleagues said that one school is getting kids to record book reviews on their iPads and putting them online, creating QR codes, then attaching this QR code on the front of the book. Kids can then use mobile devices, including iPads kept in the library, to scan the book and listen to reviews from their peers.

Cool eh!!

To add to some of the other suggestions:

Name selector (or any app like it is) is great for randomly selecting students, grouping students or assigning a task/topic randomly to groups/students.

Planbook is an expensive app but wonderful for lesson planning.

Smartseat lets you assign seating plans and email a pdf of the plan for printing. Dropbox is a great place to save your files from either your iPad or your laptop – then you can access files from either device. You can download an app onto your iPhone if you have one which makes it act as the remote for Keynote.
