e-Learning Update -  20 November 2013.

Kia ora koutou,

I hope this week’s update finds you all well as we race into the last few weeks of the school year. Every school I go into at the moment is full of report writing teachers and tired and frazzled students. It’s not much different here at home as Master 13 seems to have lost the will to go to school for his last few weeks of Intermediate and Master 16 negotiates his way through his first round of NCEA exams. I hope you are managing to find some time for yourselves in amongst it all and thank you for taking the time to read this update.

Following on from last week’s webinar on gaming here is another interesting article on
The benefits of Minecraft for children - My son is an avid computer geek and loves playing games. He'd been asking if he could play Minecraft for months before we finally agreed that he could buy it out of his pocket money. Since then, he's become a huge fan and I've been rather impressed by the impact it's had on him...

To keep in touch with what’s on top for others and reflect on my own practice, I love to follow other educator’s blogs, so this week I thought I would share a few of my favourites and encourage you to share with us who you follow too.

Silvia Tolisano Rosenthal is Langwitches, She has worked as a World Language teacher, Technology Integration Facilitator and 21st Century Learning Specialist. Her passions include globally connected learning, technology integration, 21st Century skills and literacies,  as well as digital storytelling.

Teaching and e-learning is Claire Amos blog and her latest post is titled Courageous sharing at HPPS
I have been following the HPPS journey closely. I am fascinated by and in awe of their journey to start a new school - I mean which teacher doesn’t dream of starting a new school from scratch? At the bottom of the post Claire share links to the blogs of the rest of the HPPS staff - more valuable reading I am sure.

Train the Teacher is Stephanie Thompson’s journey as a beginning teacher. Her honesty, insight and incredible passion for teaching make great reading.

I hope you will share some of your favourite blogs so we can all benefit and build our professional learning networks.

Here are a few more links for you to investigate.

The latest e-learning round-up is out >>>  Please feel free to pass on to your networks and tell us what you think :-)

Thinking about investing in iPads or going BYOD next year? You may want to read Checklist: Are You Ready for iPads In Your School?

Got a ton of online sites and tools you want to organise for students to access? I am loving symbaloo, quick to create and highly visual, you can organise your bookmarks into one easy page of viewing. Here is an intro video explaining how it works.

Take care everyone and thanks again for reading.
